Regional Distribution Network Development
The Challenge
A multinational FMCG company entering the West African market required a distribution network capable of servicing customers across Ghana, Burkina Faso, and Togo from a single hub. The network needed to handle both ambient and temperature-controlled products, manage returns logistics, and provide proof-of-delivery for every consignment.
Our Solution
McDan Shipping designed and implemented a hub-and-spoke distribution model centred on our Tema warehousing facility. We deployed a mixed fleet of ambient and refrigerated vehicles, established cross-border transit corridors with pre-cleared documentation at each border crossing, and implemented electronic proof-of-delivery with photographic confirmation. Regional depots were established in Kumasi, Tamale, Ouagadougou, and Lomé.
The Outcome
The network achieved 97.8% on-time delivery performance within six months of launch. Distribution coverage expanded from Ghana-only to three countries, supporting the client's regional growth strategy. The temperature-controlled supply chain maintained cold chain integrity with less than 0.3% product loss, well below the industry benchmark of 2%.
