McDan Shipping Company Limited has announced a GHS 12 million fleet modernisation programme that will introduce 25 new fuel-efficient vehicles to its road transportation fleet by the end of 2026. The investment forms part of the company's broader sustainability strategy, which aims to reduce carbon emissions per tonne-kilometre by 30% by 2030.

The new fleet includes Euro 6 emission-standard trucks, refrigerated vehicles with solar-assisted cooling systems, and low-bed trailers equipped with advanced telemetry for real-time performance monitoring. The vehicles will replace older units in the company's fleet, immediately improving fuel efficiency and reducing maintenance downtime.

"Sustainability is not a marketing exercise for us; it is a business imperative," stated Dr. Daniel McKorley. "Our clients, particularly multinational corporations, are increasingly evaluating logistics providers on their environmental performance. This investment ensures we meet those expectations while reducing our own operational costs."

The programme also includes the installation of a 200kW solar panel array at McDan Shipping's Tema warehousing facility, which is expected to generate 40% of the facility's electricity requirements. LED lighting upgrades across all company facilities and the introduction of paperless documentation systems further support the sustainability objectives.

Driver training programmes focused on fuel-efficient driving techniques have been implemented alongside the fleet upgrade. Early results from pilot programmes show a 12% reduction in fuel consumption per journey, translating to both cost savings and emissions reductions.
