New State-of-the-Art Warehousing Facility Opens Near Tema Port
McDan Shipping Company Limited has officially opened its new 15,000-square-metre warehousing facility located within 3 kilometres of Tema Port. The facility represents the company's largest single infrastructure investment and is designed to serve the growing demand for modern, technology-enabled storage and distribution services in Ghana.
The warehouse features five distinct storage zones: ambient general storage, temperature-controlled cold storage, bonded warehouse space, hazardous materials storage (UN-compliant), and a dedicated e-commerce fulfilment area. Each zone is managed through an integrated warehouse management system (WMS) that provides real-time inventory tracking, automated stock alerts, and client-accessible dashboards.
"The proximity to Tema Port is a strategic advantage," explained the company's Logistics Manager. "Containers can be retrieved from the port and processed at our facility within hours rather than days. This reduces demurrage charges for our clients and accelerates the supply chain."
The facility incorporates sustainable design elements, including rainwater harvesting, solar panels, and natural ventilation systems that reduce energy consumption by an estimated 35% compared to conventional warehouse designs. The facility has been certified to ISO 9001:2015 quality management standards.
The new warehouse is expected to create 120 direct jobs and support an additional 300 indirect jobs in transportation, security, and facility management. McDan Shipping plans to host an open day for existing and prospective clients to tour the facility and explore service options.
